Camping 102

No rain, no dog, no vomit. In other words, it was fun! Especially since it happened in our backyard and Vander and I got to sleep in the house.
Who needs wood when you have tons of newspaper?
Which burns very hot.

Which makes it difficult to roast marshmallows--

--mini marshmallows, that is.

(It was all we had.) But Nathan didn't let that stop him!

And neither did Annalee.

Finally she abandoned Daddy to the roasting and started shoving them into her mouth straight from the bag.

Surprisingly, they were able to stay out there the whole night. (I expected Annalee to wake up several times from excitement.) Annalee woke up at dawn and asked Daddy if it was light out. "No," he said, "it's still dark." She turned over and immediately passed out again. They came in around the time Annalee usually gets up.

Much better than our last trip!

You guys are brilliant! (at least on the 2nd try). And Nathan is a Gem.

Mike has been wanting to take our kids "camping" in our yard too. Problem is that we have no yard except a little patch in front of the house. But ISU is doing a family camp out on the quad where they're providing dinner (hot dogs), breakfast (eggs and pancakes), and of course, s'mores! And since it's on campus and only a few blocks from our house, it's not a huge commitment if Emily decides she hates it.

Yes, that is just my type of camping. Dad + kids outside, mom + baby inside. Who knows, maybe I'll venture out one day... Looks like Annalee had a lot of fun!

We've been doing that too trying to train the older ones to sleeping outside for when we might get to go camping for real. Eric has had them try out all 3 of our tents and we've watched all 3 Swann Princess' with popcorn out in the tent. Aaron hasn't actually slept out yet but Miriam has been doing pretty good.
